“HIV/AIDS Education and Preventive Program on the Tema-Aflao road corridor for the contractors and consultants’ workforce as well as communities along the Tema-Sogakope and Sogakope-Akatsi Road Project. "
Districts that benefited from the project were Tema Municipality, Ada West in the Greater Accra Region, South Tongu and Akatsi Districts in the Volta Region. Strategies used were Behaviour Change communication on HIV/AIDS using drama and open forum discussions for road contractors’ workforce and community members, radio discussions on HIV, testimony on stigma and discrimination by persons living with HIV as well as Condoms and IE&C materials for distribution.
Two (2) 3-Day HIV/AIDS Education and Sensitization workshops were held for the Contractors and Consultants workforce as well as Community focal persons. Community HIV/AIDS Education durbars were held in twelve (12) selected communities. Forty-four (44) condom retail outlets were established in the 12 selected communities along the project corridor.

HIV/AIDS Education for Contractors’ Workforce of the Ghana Highway Authority.
SSG educated contractors, their workforce and community members in the Tongu District, Kpando & Ho Municipalities in the Volta Region. Strategies used were Behaviour Change communication on HIV/AIDS using drama and open forum discussions for road contractors’ workforce and community members, Testimony on stigma and discrimination by a person living with HIV and Condom distribution.

Global Fund/ADRA funded “Re-enforcing the scaling up of HIV Services: Strengthening HIV prevention and effective targeting in the Eastern & Volta Regions.
Under this, we promoted safe sexual practices among the youth and other vulnerable groups in twenty-four (24) communities in the Lower Manya Krobo & Asuogyaman districts in the Eastern Region and South Tongu District in the Volta region. A major aspect of this project was increasing access to HIV Testing and Counseling (HTC) by organizing outreach events. As many as Six Thousand and Forty Four (6,044) people took advantage of these outreach HTC sessions to know their HIV status.

African Women Development Fund HIV Prevention among Female Students in 5 Senior High Schools.
As part of the project, we organised a Story and Poetry Writing competition on HIV Prevention, Women and girls’ Bodily integrity and Prevention of Violence against girls in Five Public Senior High Schools in the Asuogyaman District of Ghana. The project also created an event page on social media on which information on HIV related issues concerning women and girls were posted weekly for discussion. The project provided education to the youth and students on HIV prevention. Students were challenged to read more on the subject matter by researching online. Their research helped them develop well informed stories and poems that addressed the topic of HIV and in turn, helped to educate people. The project also assisted brilliant but needy students through the awards scheme instituted as part of the project. The final award for the competition included tablets that the students are expected to use to enhance their learning and sharpen their knowledge on ICT.

“HIV Prevention among Key Populations”
Supported by the US Embassy, the objective of the project was to increase the utilization of TC/STI and other HIV and AIDS related services for female sex workers (FSW) and their partners in the new Juaben Municipality. In all 830 FSWS were reached with information of ABC, Sexually transmitted Infections and HIV testing and Counselling.
2004-2016
HIV Prevention Project with funding from Ghana AIDS Commission
We worked as the lead organization that provided sub-grants to 30 smaller NGOs and coordinated their activities. With funding from the Ghana AIDS Commission, we supported them to undertake HIV interventions within their localities.
We coordinated the activities of 250 peer educators in the Eastern and Volta Regions of Ghana. Over 50,000 people got to know their HIV Status, with a little over 2,000 of them testing positive. All positive persons were linked to various Antiretroviral centers. We retailed over 5 million male condoms and 15,000 female condoms. Over 300,000 youth and about 90,000 adults were reached through one on one and group level interventions with information on HIV.

Malaria Prevention Project
SSG worked at promoting education on malaria prevention, treatment and control. This project has been funded, since 2015, by the “National Malaria Control Program” and financed under the Global Fund for AIDS, Malaria and Tuberculosis. The aim is to reduce malaria specific morbidity and mortality (especially in children under-five and pregnant women).
The project targeted at Children under five, pregnant women and the general population. 80 communities in Lower Manya Krobo Municipal have benefited from the project. A total of 800 pregnant women were identified and 554 were enrolled in ANC for SP-IPT. A total of 30,384 community members were reached with information on malaria prevention and treatment.
Governance and
Leadership
Socioserve-Ghana is governed by a five (5) member Board of Trustees (BoT) whose members have expertise in key areas required for effective governance of the organization. The BoT provides strategic leadership which defines the scope of operations, ensures prudent financial management and provides a framework for human capital management. The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is the head of the Organisation and reports to the Board. A Management Team made up of the Finance Manager and Programmes Manager sees to the implementation of the Board’s strategies and policies.

“Education on Malaria Prevention and Treatment in the Asuogyaman District in Ghana”.
This programme was coordinated by the National Malarial Control Programme (NMCP) and financed under the Global Fund for AIDS, Malaria and Tuberculosis. The aim of the project was to reduce malaria specific morbidity and mortality (especially in children under-five and pregnant women).
The project was targeted at Children under 5, pregnant women and the general population. The project was implemented as a cost of US$ 44,830.90. The following were achieved under the project. 68 health workers (17 nurses and 51 chemical sellers) were educated on the Anti-Malaria Drug Policy (AMDP), One hundred and nine (109) community based health volunteers (CBHVs) have been educated on the Anti-Malarial Drug Policy, Dramas and open forum discussions organized in twenty (20) communities to discuss AMDP, malarial prevention and treatment issues, a total of 2,200 insecticide treated nets distributed to pregnant mothers and children below five years, Fifteen (15) re-treatment centres were refurbished and over 650 bed nets treated.
A total of 511 pregnant women were identified during the period, with 263 being on SP-IPT, representing 51.5 % of the total number of pregnant women on SP-IPT.
2009-2010
University Research Co., LLC funded malaria education project in the Eastern Region titled ‘Promoting Malaria Prevention.
The project was implemented within twenty-five (25) communities in the Asuogyaman District. 749 pregnant women were monitored for Intermittent Preventive Treatment-Sulfadoxine-Pyrimethamine (IPT-SP) uptake. Community Based Health Volunteers monitored these pregnant women to ensure that they visit clinics/hospitals to take the required dosage to prevent malaria in pregnancy. At the end of the project, knowledge of malaria prevention and treatment improved among 68,976 people in 13,441 homes, 342 Insecticide Treated Nets (ITNs) were sold to the general population, 285 ITNs hanged, and there was a significant increase in Antenatal clinic attendance among pregnant women. The number of pregnant women who completed the SP dose increased from 813 as at quarter three of 2009 to 1,009 by Quarter 3 of 2010, representing an increase of 19.4% and also reduction in pregnancy and delivery complications among pregnant women by 33% in 2010 due to uptake of IPT-SP.

“Reinforcing TB Prevention in the Eastern Region through Effective Targeting, project, with funding from the National Tuberculosis Control Programme (NTP)."
The project was implemented in the Lower Manya Krobo and New Juaben Municipalities, Nsawam-Adoagyire, Kwaebibirem, Kwahu Afram Plains and Yilo Krobo South Districts.
The objectives were (i) To facilitate increase in TB case detection in project districts through effective targeting of Advocacy, Communication, Social Mobilization and Screening activities and (ii) To increase TB treatment success rate in project districts by pursuing an effective follow-up system as well as targeting of Advocacy, Communication and Social Mobilization activities. Results achieved included referral of 1000 suspected cases to the hospital for screening out of which 61 cases have been diagnosed as positive, out of whom many have been cured while others are still on treatment. Over 10,000 community members have been reached with information on TB. Since 2017, SSG has focused its attention mainly on the hard-to-reach communities in the Yilo Krobo Municipality.

Ghana Health Service/Ghana Coalition of NGOs funded project titled “GAVI Health System Strengthening Support Project”
Strategies deployed were the creation of demand for immunization at the community level, facilitating the establishment of satellite points so that immunization services get closer to the people who need it. Mobilisation of the services of community-based volunteers who acquired knowledge through training and they further extended the knowledge to households and hard to reach communities. Through the project immunization coverage was expanded with the creation of 7 satellite sites in the East Akim District and 3 satellite sites in the Asuogyaman District. Increased immunization uptake in project communities due to activities of community volunteers such as public education and defaulter tracing. Over 5000 people were reached with information on importance of immunization

“Advocacy on the Theme “Improving Access to Quality Maternal and Neonatal Health Services at the Community Level in the Lower Manya Krobo District”.
The project was funded by the Centre for Development Partnership with World Bank Small Grants Programme. The objectives of the project were to improve collaboration between Traditional Birth Attendants and Ghana Health Service staff in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality and to develop a guideline document to ensure safety of services that Traditional Birth Attendants provide for pregnant woman. This resulted in the development of a guideline document titled “Towards an Effective Collaboration for Quality Maternal & Neonatal Health Delivery: The Role of the TBA and Ghana Health Service”.
The Guide book was subsequently adopted in Pictorial form and distributed to Traditional Birth Attendants who could not read to ensure safe deliveries. With the help of the Lower Manya Krobo Queen Mothers Association, five (5) maternity homes in waiting were established. Referral process/system of pregnant women by Traditional Birth Attendants when complications arose improved due to greater collaboration. The project brought about increased collaboration and sustained partnership among Queen Mothers, Traditional Birth Attendants and health service staff towards maternal health improvement.

Maternal health project sponsored by STAR Ghana with DANIDA, USAID, Ukaid and EU as donors.
The project enhanced partnerships between communities and healthcare providers in improving maternal health services in five districts in the Eastern Region. A key feature of this project was the use of the Community Score Card methodology. As a result of the project, service delivery for pregnant women in the 5 project districts increased. 1,371 expectant mothers who hitherto were not attending ANC due to either lack of access or poor attitude towards ANC attendance got enrolled for ANC services, Also, 7 hard to reach project communities set up Community Support Funds to ensure regular availability of funds for prompt payment of drivers under the Community Emergency Transport system arrangement.
Five communities provided their CHPS compounds with free water supply to enhance services for pregnant women. We facilitated the construction of new CHPS compounds by community members so as to bring healthcare to the door step of the people. One of the CHPS compound was commissioned on August 16, 2014 at Yokwenor a community in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal and published in the August 20, 2014 of the Ghanaian Times newspaper Page 25. A second CHPS compound was commissioned on August 29, 2014 at Anweam a community in the Kwaebibirem District.

IMMUNISATION ADVOCACY INITIATIVE
The Immunization Advocacy Initiative, Ghana aims to increase domestic financing of the Health budget with prioritization for immunization. The initiative has two outcomes; 1: Ensure that financing to immunization in the Government of Ghana national budget is sustained every year. 2: Ensure that the proportion of the budget allocation to immunization disbursed and spent in each financial year increases year on year by the Government of Ghana.
SSG is implementing this initiative together Hope for Future Generation-(LEAD), West Africa AIDS Foundation and Ghana Registered Midwives Association. Other Implementing organizations are SEND Ghana and Ghana Coalition of NGOs in Health.

TACKLING EXTORTION IN THE GHANAIAN HEALTHCARE SYSTEM
This two-year project was funded by STAR-Ghana Foundation with support from DANIDA, EU and UKAaid. SSG partnered with Hope for Future Generations and West Africa Aids Foundation as the LEAD. The main objectives of the project were:
- To reduce the occurrence of corruption within the private and public healthcare systems through, improving communication channels between senior and frontline staff within the healthcare sector.
- Increasing the exposure of corruption and
- Increasing client confidence in the healthcare system delivery.
The project was implemented in 14 districts across the country.

The project led to the awakening of consciousness of the rights and responsibilities of beneficiaries, increased knowledge of the Patient’s Charter, what constitutes corruption and how to report corruption.
